The Temple of Literature

This man was sitting outside the Temple of Literature in Vietnam. It is a Confucian temple, dating back to 1070 and sits in the city of Hanoi. Scholars and thinkers trained here; memorials to their learning scatter the grounds.

I thought it was beautiful circumstance that someone would read nested inside the arches of the temple as the rain came down. As a person who loves literature, what better place to visit? You can read more about the temple on Wikipedia here.

I took the photo on my D80 then converted it to black and white in Lightroom. I think the textures of the wall come out much better in a monochromal palette. I love the way that the person’s face is hidden by the darkness of their conical hat.
